Hungary has launched a new eID card featuring biometric and eSignature options, with officials hailing its development as a "world record" in terms of speed.Interior ministry state secretary Laszlo Tasnadi said at the launch that the the rollout of the card was a "success story" which will "open the doorway to digital public administration".Described as a "one-stop card", the eID combines personal identification including fingerprint data, social security and tax identification information.At the launch, Istvan Ignacz, head of the Central Office for Administrative and Electronic Public Services (KEKKH), said the card was developed in a "world record" two months.No other country has launched a card with such complex security functions within such a short amount of time, said Ignacz.Although issuing began on January 4, within five business days a total of 39,204 people have applied for the card.The document will be valid for six years for citizens over the age of 18 and for three years in the case of minors. Citizens will receive their cards within eight days of submitting their application.
