City-state Singapore is developing biometric border controls that work with vehicles at land borders, using robotic arms to reach into vehicles.The latter solution is called the Automated Passenger In-Car Clearance System, and a prototype was completed at the end of December last year.It is undergoing technical trials that will last until the end of this year.The prototype was unveiled at the opening of the Home Team Science & Technology exhibition and conference on Monday (July 10), held at the Home Team Academy in Choa Chu Kang. Earlier this year, a larger biometric system called BioScreen was rolled out at all border points.Those aged six and above who use manned counters at immigration checkpoints will have to scan both their thumbprints upon arrival and departure. The country also said last year that iris scans will be progressively introduced at Singapore's land and sea checkpoints within the next two years to boost identity verification methods.
