A Malaysian education body has developed a mobile app that police can use in tandem with smart student cards to verify the identity of international students.Developed by Education Malaysia Global Services, the app works in conjunction with the i-Kad an international student ID card introduced last year that stores biometric and other personal data."This initiative goes a long way in enhancing international students' security and welfare," EMGS chief executive officer Mohd Yazid Abdul Hamid said in a statement, adding that it will reduce the number of students detained over "suspicious identities".The app works by scanning an SQR code on the back of the card, and was built in conjunction with print and digital services company Percetakan Nasional Malaysia Berhad, reported The PIE News.i-Kads also store students' passport numbers and details of their educational institution.
