The complexities of introducing the Entry/Exit programme have affected contracting and emphasised the demand for more training of border force officers, according to Frontex. On top of constant delays, the final date for operation passed on 11 November, 2024.

Frontex has launched recruitment to find additional EU Border and Coast Guard officers whilst the digital streamlined processes promised by the Entry/ Exit System are put on hold.

Trained by the best and equipped with the latest technology, applicants will be prepared to accept burdening challenges at the border.

Over the last year, Frontex recorded unforeseen channel crossings driven by humanitarian crises.

The Agency will be recruiting officers at four levels: officers, section leaders, deputy commanders and commanders. They will also have to meet certain criteria such as age and pass fitness tests.

By 2027, the European Border and Coast Guard standing corps will comprise of 10 000 people, divided into category 1 Frontex staff and 7,000 officers provided by EU Member States.

Newly appointed officers who receive basic training are expected to be deployed on the ground by the second quarter of 2025 to ensure the proper functioning of the Schengen Area.
