Lilly Schmidt is leading a research program for ESMT Berlin devising seamless use cases that do not currently support the provision of e-ID in Germany. With refreshing honesty, she admits Germany lags behind in the Digital ID armed race, with the main reason being that there is no consensus on the adoption of e-ID by industry or citizens without use cases. The challenge is not yet over to finally create a good user experience alongside their working technological solution and high privacy.
Over a decade of e-ID projects, Schmidt talks about delegation to Estonia and other more advanced countries and current showcase projects funded by the Ministry of Economics and Ministry of Interior.
