The dedicated holograms industry convened for the annual online Holography Conference (THCO) on 21 and 22 November 2023 which invited research papers on themes of the conference. This year’s platform for hologram suppliers, producers and users to exchange ideas emphasised the environmental position many manufacturing firms are being forced to take to ensure the longevity of physical security documents into the future, which still have as much relevance as digital identity.

Partnership is important to all main players within the ecosystem in order to deliver successful projects that integrate world-leading technologies and lead on sustainability promises and reusable eco materials. The dilemma of manufacturing companies is that whilst materials are becoming more scarcely used, even security and non-security components for holograms, optimum solutions remain sought after for identification, security and traceability purposes.

The industry is still pushing boundaries for the next frontier of innovation and solutions which can be more robust, less costly and have greater durability. Holograms are converted and finished into applications such as ID cards, passports, and other travel documents as well as used in markets such as vehicle identification.
