The Ministry has set out new requirements for means of identification, authentication services, and authorisation services within the Digital Government Act (Wdo). These regulations, published on 12 February 2025, are aimed at bolstering the security and privacy of online interactions with government services.

A ministerial regulation is a binding directive adopted by a minister or state secretary. These regulations address practical and technical matters that may need to be updated swiftly to keep pace with technological advances and security needs.

With the introduction of the Wdo, citizens can now access various government services using recognised private login methods, in addition to the existing DigiD system. However, these private login methods must receive approval from the central government. The announced requirements are essential for ensuring these methods meet stringent security and privacy standards. This move allows interested parties to prepare for admission, although the requirements will only take effect once the technical specifications of the Access System are completed.
