Building upon the success of the CA.gov site update, the California Department of Technology is launching an open source portal which promotes sharing resources and digital tools between developers, government agencies and the public.

The portal provides a community of tech solutions providing direction with resources, frameworks and reusable codes to easily integrate with other projects.

As a visionary in government tech, California’s Design System was also the inspiration behind the usability and accessibility for the model of the Open Source Portal, which simplifies open source code directly from the user.

“We revamped the Open Source Portal and made it more user-friendly and easier to share and reuse open-source code,” said Blaine Wasylkiw, deputy chief technology innovation officer. “Government entities, businesses, and the public can use this collaborative tool to develop digital solutions quickly.”

The portal encourages contribution of open source codes from users and feedback from the broader tech industry on ways to improve the design system and what new features to implement. Tools can be easily adopted and modified as open-source saving teams developing websites, mobile applications or data visualization tools time and costs whilst promoting innovation.
