A private banking wallet, Wero, is advancing payment services for customers of Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, ING, and KBC in France, Belgium and Germany. The launch of Wero focused on standalone peer-to-peer payments services as well as direct account transactions. Expanding to the wider payments ecosystem, the app aims to penetrate the market further enabling e-commerce, point-of-sale transactions and SME business payments for digitized banks. It will need to cultivate banking partnerships to elevate its European payments solution into broader services.
By 2026, in-store payments, buy now, pay later options, merchant loyalty programs, and expense sharing features will be added. Nexi has integrated German e-commerce merchants into the wallet in Q3 2024, overall creating a seamless alternative payments solution to government issued wallets for retail and e-commerce.
