Air Canada is set to launch its Digital Identification program at Vancouver International Airport starting December 3, 2024. This rollout extends digital boarding to nearly all domestic flights from YVR, following a successful pilot project. The airline, in partnership with YVR, becomes the first in Canada to implement this innovative technology, enhancing the travel experience by offering secure and convenient digital recognition at boarding gates.

Tom Stevens, Vice President of Canadian Airports and Customer Experience Strategy at Air Canada, highlighted the benefits of this technology in making boarding more effortless and convenient, especially noted by frequent flyers during the pilot phase. Tamara Vrooman, President and CEO of YVR, emphasised that this enhancement will reduce wait times and streamline the airport journey.

“The feedback from customers, notably our frequent flyers, during the pilot phase was very positive. We look forward to expanding this technology to additional airports,” said Tom Stevens, Vice President, Canadian Airports and Customer Experience Strategy at Air Canada.

Digital identification will also be available for entry to Air Canada’s Maple Leaf Lounges and the Air Canada Café. Enrolment is optional and can be completed through the Air Canada app, with the system designed to ensure data privacy and security.

The Digital Identification program builds on the app’s features like real-time flight updates and baggage tracking.

Air Canada’s digital identification is not related to any government-sponsored program such as NEXUS, Global Entry or US CBP Mobile Passport Control (MPC).

This initiative marks a significant step in modernising the Canadian airport experience.
